When you run a business, it’s not just about bossing people around and giving orders.
- being a leader
- making sure things run efficiently
- making hard decisions
- taking risks and being the one to blame if all that doesn’t come through the way you planned.
It’s hard being the boss.
Making sure things run efficiently means making sure that your team is motivated, products run right, things are done on time and in an orderly fashion.
Taking risks: having the ability to go out on a limb when you really don’t know if that decision will work. Trusting your gut, trusting your instincts, thinking fast; all of these are risks that you someday will have to take (being scary in a business isn’t going to cut it. You have to be head strong and looking forward not back no matter what business you are in)
Not only that, those inside your business and outside your business need to know you are the boss. Stern, strong, professional, motivated and goal oriented. Yes it is hard being the boss and anyone that has an interest in running a business should do their research first. The first thing you’ll learn is giving orders is NOT the first thing in being a business owner.
Hard times will come. Struggles will make their way into your office but a strong passion for what you do will keep you going!
