Have you ever analyzed your favorite author? You should. You should study their work, read their books, read what other people have said about them, read what they have done behind the scenes.
You never want to be exactly like your favorite author but it’s always good to learn. Sometimes our favorite author writes in the same genre we write in; in other times we love someone who writes in a genre we’d never dear step foot in. It happens that way. But something that author is doing is getting your attention. Maybe they market well. Maybe their stories are written quick; they don’t drag their stories or maybe they simply know how to tell a good story. Whatever it is, they have your attention and you should know why.
Why should you know why? You should know why because some interviewer will ask you “Who is your favorite author and why?” Your answer should say “I like_________ because___________” No interviewer wants to hear you say, “I don’t know. I just like them. They want to know why because believe it or not, they just might compare you to them because now you have put that authors name in their mind…….along with yours!
So you should analyze your favorite author. You should know all there is to know about them. Be able to tell yourself why you like them; why you admire them; what gets your attention.
If someone walked up to you and said, you are my favorite author, wouldn’t you want to know why?
